Whether you are at the beginning of your guide or service dog journey or are a seasoned handler of many years, sometimes it’s helpful to have someone to talk through your situation and help you problem solve workable solutions.
I focus on solid base behaviors of lifestyle obedience, recall and positive relationship building through a variety of training techniques. With a solid foundation, you can build amazing things!
Once the basic behaviors are solid, I will help you move on to service dog specific socialization, public access work, specific task training, or help you address specific problem areas. I will work with you to accomplish your unique goals.
With hard work, persistence and the knowledge of what to do next, you can address any challenging situation with confidence. It is the what to do next that is often the struggle. I can help you formulate a training plan that will fit your needs, your abilities and your lifestyle.
I know whatever the reasons are you have for looking for training support, your goals and objectives are unique. At the same time, those goals are universal and common to us all.
You want to move freely in the world, or you want greater independence. You want more confidence, or you want to make your days a little easier. You want less stress and a better quality of life. And you have decided a guide or service dog is the key to helping you claim those things. I understand.
You have the hope and the faith that having a well behaved, responsive guide or service dog can change your life. Or perhaps you are hoping that this dog could be different from what it has been in the past. You know it’s possible. You just aren’t quite certain about how to get there from here. I understand. I’ve been there too.
Please understand, I can only work with you to identify a course of action. The training, the hard work, the persistence of practice is all you. No one can do the work for you but you. If you want to train or retrain your guide or service dog and are dedicated to the process, then I would be honored to be a part of that process.
I am comfortable working with owner trainers or those with dogs from programs. Please consult your contract with your program to ensure you are not violating that agreement by hiring a coach. I will not work with owners of dogs with any aggressive history or current aggressive behaviors. I strongly believe these are not appropriate for service work in public.
I will work with you with honesty, gentleness and respect. If I feel owner training is not a good fit for you, I will tell you. If I feel your dog is unsuited to being a service dog, I will express that. I am committed to working with my clients through the process of getting and maintaining a guide or service dog that fits your needs and lifestyle.
Please contact me for availability and pricing. I only work with a small number of individuals at any given time, to ensure quality of service and availability. I will need you to complete a questionnaire and a phone interview to ensure that you are a good fit for what I have to offer. All our work together will be by phone or email.
